Since 2000, the Rules Revision Commission of the State Bar Board of Governors has been working on thirty-five revisions to the California Rules of Professional. These rule revisions deal with issues ranging from attorneys’ fees to advertising. On November 14, 2009, The California State Bar’s Board of Governors approved nearly three-dozen of these new or amended professional conduct rules. However, these new rules are not yet binding on attorneys. These proposed rules still must undergo public comment and review by the California Supreme Court before they become effective. However, while the revised rules may not yet be binding on California attorneys, this is something that every lawyer in the state will need to review and incorporate into their practice.
